Can we get that straight in our thinking?! We have to focus on this life and the next, with correct per portion. It can’t be all one or the other, or too little of one and too much of the other. We have to live responsibly and wisely in this life in preparation for eternity. So what reference point do we use in order to make the right decisions so that we live life with the correct per portion? [Luke 12:15] “And He said to them, “Take heed and beware of covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of the things he possesses.” This is a word from Jesus for those fixated only on this life, consumed and fixated on the accumulation of possessions. WATCH OUT that this doesn’t come to describe us. This life is for the purpose of glorifying God, being an effective witness and testimony for Jesus Christ to those who are lost, and living a life of obedience that is pleasing to God. (Jesus: “....I do always those things that please the Father.”) To live your life in correct per portion there will be sacrifices to make, steps of obedience that are hard and challenging along the way. Not every choice we make in life, if we are going to do the will of God, is going to give us a present advantage...the advantage comes in eternity...sometimes. [Hebrews 11:13-16] “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. For those who say, such things declare plainly that they seek a homeland. And truly if they had called to mind that country from which they had come out, they would have had opportunity to return. But now they desire a better, that is, a heavenly country. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.” When you’re facing those moments of challenge, hardship, and difficulty...remember, there is a world to come where all suffering ceases. [2 Corinthians 4:17-18] “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
